If you are still missing the option “File -> Application -> Install”  in the menu of the Notes client although you already followed the instructions in this article, then try to set the value “enable.update.ui=true” in the file

[codesyntax  lang=”text”]

…\<notesdata>\Workspace\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.core.runtime\.settings\com.ibm.notes.branding.prefs

[/codesyntax]

Make sure you have closed your Notes client before you make any changes in order to avoid that Notes will overwrite them again while closing.

    Note: This option could also be over-ruled if the users Admin has restricted this feature using a desktop setting applied via policy.

    On my Ubuntu this file isn’t there but I have created it.

    But at all I had to do several steps to be able to install plugings:

    * Plugin_customization.ini ->com.ibm.notes.branding/enable.update.ui=true
    * delete desktop policy in the personal names.nsf
    * delete workspace directory

    and then I was failing during the install for access reasons where I worked around with :

    sudo chmod 777 -R /opt/ibm/notes/framework/rcp/deploy/
    sudo chmod 777 -R /opt/ibm/notes/framework/shared/eclipse/
