After making some configuration changes to the file “profiles-config.xml” we got some strange Java errors and were no longer be able to start the Profiles application again.
Even after using the original backup file again profiles was not willing to start which was quite strange.
It took us a very long time to find out that you should never have a backup copy of “profiles-config.xml” in the same directory even if you slightly change the name e.g. to “copy of profiles-config.xml” or “profiles-config.xml.org” etc.
If you want to make a backup copy be sure to move it to another directory outside of the original path.
