Starting Lotus Notes 8.0 Basic Client

During a discussion with a customer today it turned out that not all users of Lotus Notes 8 know that after installing the Lotus Notes Standard (eclipse) client they also have the Lotus Notes Basic client installed as well.

Although there is no icon automatically generated for the basic client you only need to start the “nlnotes.exe” from the Notes program directory to get the Lotus Notes basic client running.

So you can roll out the standard client on all your workstations even if they do not currently meet the hardware requirements (e.g. not enough RAM etc.). On these workstations you can work with the basic client in the meantime and switch to the standard client later without the need to re-install.

Lotus Quickr (Services for Domino) 8.0.0.2 released

The message comes a little bit late because of my holidays:

Some days ago version 8.0.0.2 of Lotus Quickr (Services for Domino) aka Lotus Quickr version 8.0 fix pack 1 has been released.

Please make sure that you also install the already available hotfix 1 for this new version which is available on FixCentral.

Important: There seems to be some confusion as there are still two different files on FixCentral. One is called “8.0.0.2-Quickr-Domino-HF1” and the other “8.0.0.2-Quickr-HF1-Domino”. You MUST use the file called “8.0.0.2-Quickr-Domino-HF1” which should (among others) contain a file HaikuCommonForms.ntf with a file size of 8192 kB and a file date from November 1st 2007.

The Lotus Quickr Version 8.0.0.2 is currenly for the English version of Quickr only. If you want to use the language packs for Quickr please do not install this fix pack as it is not compatible with the language packs.

Don’t forget to reinstall the Quickr Connectors with the new version delivered with 8.0.0.2 (however the release number of the new connector seems to be 8.0.0.1 …).

Lotus Quickr: Chat link not working

After installing a Lotus Quickr 8.0 (Domino Services) server and connecting it to a Lotus Sametime 7.5.1 CF1 server the chat link on the right hand side of a place was not working.

Normally this link should display a small window where you can see all users who are currently online and you should be able to directly start a chat with these people.

Instead of this I only got a window with a small red “X” inside and a unspecific error message in the Java console.

There is already a hotfix for Lotus Sametime available for this problem which you can obtain via Lotus support. You should reference to SPR# JYYG6ZZD4V. If you got the fix you should overwrite the existing files “CommRes.jar” and “STComm.jar” in the “..Quickplace\Peopleonline” directory which you created before as part of the Quickr/Sametime integration.

After restarting your Sametime server the Chat link in Quickr should work as expected.

The SPR is already mentioned in this KB article as being fixed with Sametime 7.5.1CF1 but this seems not to be true in this particular case.

Domino LDAP and Certifiers

We had a problem with Domino LDAP at a customer site:

A group of pilot users of different domains should be made accessible via a test Domino LDAP server. So we copied the person documents from the Domino directories of the other domains into the Domino directory of the test LDAP server. Unfortunately all of these users were not visible in the LDAP directoy afterwards.

The solution was to copy all necessary certifier documents from the other Domino directories into the Domino directory of the LDAP server. As soon as the certifiers documents existed all users suddenly showed up via LDAP.

Lotus Quickr: Java Error ‘4488 Server access denied’

If you get a java error ‘4488 Server access denied’ when trying to use a context menu in “My Places” (e.g. to lock or delete a place) in Lotus Quickr (Domino Services) you should make sure that the Quickr user is allowed to access the Domino server.

In the server document in the Domino directory check the setting Security -> Access Server. This setting should either be empty or you should add the Quickr users into this field (or into a group which you can then add into this field).

The user would be able to access Lotus Quickr without being part of this group (as this is for Notes client users only) but the Java applets will have problems in this case.
