Beweiskraft von Bildern

Hier mal ein Beispiel, welche Aussagekraft die vermeintlichen “Beweisbilder” in den Artikeln unserer Mainstreampresse so haben.

Dieser Artikel erschien auf der WDR-Seite als Begeleittext zum “Tagesgespräch” am 29.08.2014. Man beachte das Bild mit den Panzern und der Bildunterschrift “Russische Kampfpanzer fahren am 19.08.2014 noch unter Beobachtung von Medienvertretern in der Ukraine”:

Wie man sieht erscheint das gleiche Bild auch als Vorspann zu einem Artikel in der “Welt” vom 28.08.2014 mit quellenangabe von “N24”, der dieses Bild scheinbar auch schon verwendet hat:

Soweit, so gut. Nirgendwo wurde allerdings erwähnt, dass dieses Bild überhaupt rein gar nichts mit der Ukraine-Krise zu tun hat.

Denn: Das gleiche Bild musste am 29. Juni 2009 (also 5 Jahre zurvor!) schon mal herhalten. Damals waren diese Panzer Teil eines Manövers im Kaukasus:

Früher, also in Zeiten vor der Mainstream-Propaganda hätte man in den Bildunterschriften wenigstens einen Hinweis wie “Archivbild” oder so gefunden. Heute wird es einfach unkommentiert abgedruckt, weil es ja gerade zu dem passt, was man uns suggerieren will.

Ich werde nun mal die Welt und den WDR anschreiben und um Stellungnahme bitten. Mal sehen was sie zu sagen haben.

Sie erwarten zu Recht eine ausgewogene Berichterstattung, die auch unser Anliegen ist.

Der Artikel hat ja nun ein neues Bild bekommen mit der Unterschrift “Russische Soldaten in der Ukraine”. Könnten Sie mir bitte noch verraten, an welchem Detail im Bild man erkennen kann, dass es sich hier
a, um die Ukraine
b, um einen russischen Soldaten
handelt?
Auch hier wird in der Bildunterschrift eine Behauptung aufgestellt, die nicht bewiesen werden kann. Ich muss noch einmal betonen, dass ich dies nicht als seriöse, ausgewogene Berichterstattung ansehe, wenn ohne Vorlage von Beweisen einfach Behauptungen aufgestellt werden.
Würden Sie mir da zustimmen?

Update 01.09.2014 – Teil 2:
Und hier die neue Antwort von WDR5. Ich entnehme ihr, dass der Reporter vor Ort vermutlich sich hat den Ausweis des Soldaten zeigen lassen und dass es damit unstrittig bewiesen ist. Und damit erklärt WDR5 das Thema für beendet.

Zur Ihrer Mail möchten wir uns wie folgt äußern:

Wir verlassen uns bei den von uns verwendeten Bildern auf die Fotografen und Reporter, die vor Ort im Einsatz sind. Diese Zusammenarbeit beruht auf zum Teil jahrelange enge Zusammenarbeit. Den pauschalen Vorwurf, dass wir unseriösen Journalismus betreiben, müssen wir deshalb zurückweisen. Er entbehrt jeder Grundlage!

Es ist völlig unstrittig, dass russische Soldaten völkerrechtswidrig in der Ukraine stationiert sind (auf der Krim) oder im Donbass operieren.

– Einheiten russischer Soldaten sind gefangen genommen worden
– von Russland aus haben sogar ganze Konvois die ukrainische Grenze überschritten – ohne Erlaubnis der legitimen Regierung der Ukraine
– die russische Regierung hat eingeräumt, dass russische Soldaten in ihrer “Freizeit” in der Ukraine für russische Separatisten kämpfen.

Es wäre doch wohl Aufgabe eines souveränen Staats, seine Bürger davon abzuhalten, völkerrechtswidrig auf dem Territorium eines benachbarten Landes zu kämpfen und dabei Menschen zu töten, oder nicht? In demokratischen Ländern, wie beispielsweise in Deutschland, sind Einsätze in “privaten Kriegen” in jedem Fall strafbar. Dass die Regierung Putin nichts dergleichen unternimmt, spricht für sich.

Das sind die Fakten, die sie überall nachprüfen können. Sogar in russischen Medien, die i.d.R als sehr regierungstreu gelten, wenn man von kleineren Blogs u.ä. absieht.

Bitte haben Sie Verständnis, dass wir weitere Mails aus Zeitgründen nicht mehr beantworten können!

Nun hat der WDR wohl die Faxen dicke und hat auch das zweite Bild (das nämlich einen russischen Soldaten im März 2014 auf der Krim zeigte) entfernt. “Den Austausch des Bildes mit einem Motiv aus März 2014 zum gegenwärtigen Ukraine-Konflikt hat leider zu Schlussfolgerungen geführt, die nicht von uns intendiert waren.” – Wie hatte mir der WDR noch mal geantwortet: “Wir verlassen uns bei den von uns verwendeten Bildern auf die Fotografen und Reporter, die vor Ort im Einsatz sind”

Urs-o-Log: RSS-Feeds nur für bestimmte Tags

Aus gegebenem Anlass, da mich jemand angeschrieben hat, der sich für politische Themen etc. auf meinem Blog nicht interessiert (was ich schade finde, aber ich muss das akzeptieren), sondern nur Informationen über technische Themen etc. möchte:

Wer sich für ein E-Mail-Abo eingetragen hat, der bekommt immer eine Nachricht bei allen Themen. Eine Alternative wäre einfach meinen RSS-Feed in einem Feed-Reader zu abonnieren und dabei speziell die Tags anzugeben, die von Interesse sind.

IBM Connections Search plugin for Google Chrome

Anybody using Google Chrome as browser to access IBM Connections? Then you might want to download QuickSearch for IBM Connections from the Chrome webstore:

The IBM Connections QuickSearch plugin let you quickly search for users or content within IBM Connections, share a File to multiple users in one click, share an URL to your board or someone’s board, and update your profile picture using your webcam or an existing picture.

Use the pop-up window in the upper right corner of chrome in order to search within Profiles (with type-ahead feature), Files, Forums and so on.

You can also use it directly from the URL navigation bar, by typing “ic” (without any quotes) following by a space then your query. Then press enter for a global search or arrow keys to reduce the scope.

 

 

Send Web Articles to your Kindle

I am using my Kindle already for a long time to read web articles which are too long to read directly while I am browsing.

Up to now I have used a service called Klip.me which worked fine but I was unsure how long this service will be available as there was no updates on their website for quite a long time. So I was looking for an alternative.

And I seem to have missed that Amazon itself has a similar service in place. There is a plugin for Chrome and Firefox available. The formatting looks a bit nicer than with Klip.me. So I will give this a try.

Update 23.07.2014:

After using the Amazon solution for some days now, I am a bit disappointed. Several times the Amazon solution did not capture the whole article but just the beginning. Some parts of the article were missing. The Klip.me solution however did work all the time. So I will stay with it …

Unable to launch “IBM Cognos Administration”

During configuration of IBM Cognos together with IBM Connections you need to launch “http://cognosserver.acme.com/cognos/servlet/dispatch/ext” and select the menu option “IBM Cognos Administration” under “Launch”. Although you are sure that you have logged in with your Cognos admin account you specified earlier, this menu option is not visible. Instead you just see one entry called “Drill-through Definitions”:

In this case please try again with a different browser. I had e.g. that issue while trying to use Google Chrome. As soon as I tried it with Mozilla Firefox, everything worked ok:

IBM Connections 4.5 version confusion

I had several requests by customers about the version naming of IBM Connections 4.5 so I decided to explain it here:

The Connections code base you can download from Passport Advantage is version 4.5. For this version, several fixpacks have been published since the release date. They are called “Cumulative Refreshes” or “CR” and are numbered starting with 1. The most current CR release, at the time I wrote that article, is “CR4”.

You only need to apply the most current version. As the name states they are “Cumulative” so all fixes of the older versions are included.

In addition to the fix packs, new releases have been published for Connections 4.5 which are called “Interim Feature Release” or “IFR”.

And here is where the confusion begins.

These IFRs are only licence entitlements. Which means, you are entitled to use the new functions with IBM Connections 4.5 if you are under a valid maintenance contract.

These IFR releases are not new software code. So you still use IBM Connections 4.5 with the most current fixpack (or whatever the system requirements for a special IFR are). There is no need to download and install new code for IBM Connections itself. You just need to download the additional software needed for the additional functions (see below). The additional software should be listed in Passport Advantage if you are entitled to use it.

Currently we do have two IFRs:

IBM Connections V4.5 IFR 1 includes entitlement to IBM Forms Experience Builder V8.5 so you can use the Community Surveys feature. In order to get that new functionality you need to download and install IBM Forms Experience Builder V8. Installation instructions can be found HERE.

IBM Connections V4.5 IFR2 includes the entitlement to use Ephox EditLive! Enterprise Edition. So you will need to download and implement Ephox Editor on top of your existing Connections installation. Installation instructions can be found HERE and system requirements HERE.

Hopefully this explains it a bit better.

 

Change Language in Windows 7 Home and Professional

Microsoft does only allow to change the system language of Windows for Windows 7 Enterprise and Ultimate via the GUI. If you would like to change the language in Windows 7 Home and Professional you need to do that manually as described below (as a sample I describe how to change the language from English to German):

  1. Download the desired language pack. You find a complete link list here on this site. For German and English I copy them below:
    German 32-bit
    German 64-bit
    English 32-bit
    English 64-bit
  2. Download the exe2cab tool to convert the EXE file into a Microsoft CAB file.
  3. Open a command prompt (as an Administrator!) and run the following commands[codesyntax lang=”dos” title=”Commands”] 
    exe2cab <filename of your downloaded exe file> lp.cab
dism /online /add-package /packagepath:lp.cab
bcdedit /set {current} locale de-DE
bcdboot %WinDir% /l de-DE

  4. You then need to delete the following key from the registry:[codesyntax lang=”reg” title=”Registry key”] 
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\MUI\UILanguages\en-US

  5. Reboot your machine

If you would like to change your language to or from another language you need to adapt the locale strings (like “de-DE” and “en-US” etc.) accordingly. A list of all strings can be found here.
